Housed in a three-storey 1930s villa on quiet Gaoyou Road, EPIC has been a cornerstone of Shanghai’s cocktail culture since opening in late 2014. Founded by industry veteran Cross Yu—a two-time winner of the World Class Bartender of the Year China championship and recipient of the 2019 DMBA Founders Award—the bar helped define a golden era for Shanghai’s bar scene alongside contemporaries like Speak Low and Union Trading Company. EPIC’s vibe is defined by a retro disco soundtrack—Cross’s affinity for funk and 1980s dance music is a trademark—and street-art visuals from longtime house artist Ben . Snacks like red oil wonton and marinated duck tongue are as celebrated as the cocktails
